Once again, we find that change is a constant, and that the things that we grow to depend upon might one day be gone.
Parents, students, and teachers alike have come to rely on the inspiration and fun generated by Mr. Tommy Reddicks. As many of you have become recently aware of, Tommy's tenure at Flagstaff is coming to an end. Tommy will be sorely missed by us all.
The stage is set for Tommy to try new things. He is becoming a National Core Knowledge consultant this fall, and will complete his administrative licensure over the summer. In many arenas, his skills will be sought after for years to come.
I want to acknowledge the great thanks Flagstaff has for the heart and soul Tommy has infused into our school community. A tireless worker, Tommy has logged nearly as many hours at school as Fuego, the Flagstaff Dragon. Whether fine tuning his original musical scores, tweaking a song for the Dragon Pops, or teaching before or afterschool enrichment classes, Tommy is always around, working for the betterment of our school.
But, where will he go? Will he blast off to the moon, or better yet - another galaxy? We only know that we wish him well, and trust that the students of his future will be able to learn as much about the Arts, Core Knowledge, and life as our students have.
We will be able to find another great music teacher (in fact, it is going to take two teachers to fill his shoes in the new building), but we will never be able to replace Tommy Reddicks. May - Growing Together
One of the ways in which we stand apart as Flagstaff Dragons is our ability to respond to a dynamic and ever-changing school environment. We do not simply provide a service to a community; rather, we work in partnership with our community to realize the mission and vision of our school. We solicit feedback through a variety of channels, and we thoughtfully weigh each piece of feedback before moving forward.
The Flagstaff brand is not static, and as we look forward to next year, we are proactively developing our school-wide programming in several areas to better meet the needs of our current stakeholders and accommodate incoming students, teachers and families.
Thank you to those of you who have completed our annual parent survey. We are also surveying our students and incoming families in order to further elevate our offerings. If you have not yet completed a survey, please log on to our web page and do so.
We will be growing by nearly 35% next year. In preparation for this growth, I would like to highlight a few new key programming rollouts, which are meant to bring greater instructional effectiveness to our teachers, opportunities to our students, and community to our parents. These changes will accentuate our new, state of the art, facility.
In order to help our teachers better reach our student population, we will restructure our staff training to imbed stronger elements of science and technology, woven together seamlessly by the Core Knowledge curriculum. We rely heavily upon student data to drive our programming, and we want to clearly articulate to our incoming teachers the importance of being able to regularly assess student knowledge, reach them at their instructional level, and help them to discover their full potential.
For parents, we will be establishing stronger communication links through our Infinite Campus parent portal. Currently, this portal gives you access to your child’s grades. Going forward, parents will also be able to monitor individual student learning plans, discipline records, and classroom assessments. Our Library Media Center (LMC) will be our parent hub. The LMC will be open after school to make sure parents have the opportunity to access their parent portal and seek answers to Infinite Campus questions and concerns.
We are also thrilled to be initiating new opportunities for student enrichment at Flagstaff. In the middle school, we are currently surveying students to seek out their personal ambitions for Service Learning. A requirement of every middle school student, Service Learning programs reflect a desire to give back to the world in alignment with the mission and vision of our school. Some of our offerings include Student Mentoring and Ambassador Programs, Online Tutoring and Content-Based web casting, and Science and Technology Lab Assistant opportunities.
We are setting ourselves apart at Flagstaff, and as our brand is further carved into the educational fabric of our community, we can continue to expect the same levels of achievement and growth we have come to rely upon. In my office, my belief in what we are doing is continually reinforced. I spend the first hours of each day with current and incoming families. Our passion and excitement for Flagstaff is unparalleled, and our diligent effort to create the best school possible, for our students, is making a unique and lasting difference.

About Mr. Moore
Mr. Andrew Moore has a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature, a Master’s Degree in Education, and is pursuing an advanced degree in administration (July, 09 completion). He has over nine years of elementary school teaching experience, as well as four years of experience as a program manager for Avid 4 Adventure.
As a classroom teacher, Mr. Moore taught K-4. Since starting at Flagstafff two years ago, he has worked as the 4th-8th grade math and literacy specialist. One of his teaching goals is to “help students find success in unfamiliar places”. He is a strong advocate of educational reform in our public school system.
Outside of school you might find Mr. Moore in the garden, on a mountain top or playing in the yard with his young son and lovely wife.
